The Ancient Hot Spring of Candi Umbul

If you ever imagine as a princess in a royal palace, I suggest you should try came here and swim on this hot spring pool. Peoples believe that this pool was the bath pool for the princess from ancient kingdom from Syailendra dynasty of Hindu Mataram at Central Java. This hot spring named Candi Umbul. This ancient pool built with the stone for its floor and wall. You will found the ancient carved stones around this pool. Including the story from the keeper of this place, there was many ancient carved stones found around this area at the villages over radian 2 km. They believes that it was the palace of a kingdom of Javanese even they don’t know if they palace was built or still in a project.

Candi Umbul located at Kartoharjo, Grabag, Magelang, of Central Java. It is at the North West side of Mount Merbabu, near the Telomoyo hill. You can reach this spring as a package with Telomoyo’s peak, Sekarlangit waterfall, Kopeng, and Ketep Pass. All of these places located at the high attitude from sea level, so you can feel the cool air on your body without using the air conditioning from your car. The simple route to reach candi umbul from Jogja was trough Magelang-Secang-Grabag. If you have entered Grabag Area, turn left before Grabag market, from here you just get for about 4km to reach Candi Umbul. You need 1 hour from Jogja to get here.

Candi Umbul was open daily from 6 AM to 5:30 PM. You just pay Rp. 3000,-/person to enter the pool. There are two pools there, each size round about 20x10 meters. Even though I don’t smell the sulphur from these hot springs, people believe that these pools was contains the sulphur and make the water from these pools good from skin health, specially for the people have disease whit their skin.

The local government looked haven’t response for these potential recreation site. The algae growing prosperous on the stones of these pools and made the water looked green. The bathroom and dressing room looked dirty and some of them where broken, there’s no light in these rooms. It will be better if the local government take serious maintenance and development of Candi Umbul, so the tourist will be enjoy to spent their time here enjoy the hot water in the cold area and the visitation will be increase. The second chance was give the management to the private company to develop this exotic place. I see the wide area that can be develop as the playground for the child whom love play in the water and the fresh area. The location of candi umbul was in the middle of the valley and rice field around, with the river flow near was the perfect site to be built for natural recreation area.

Let’s help the government to take action more to these place by visit to candi umbul, so they will think seriously to built better of this place if there is many tourist visit here and the money will flow though this hot springs of Candi Umbul.
