Do You like the mount resort?
There's a beautiful place reside at west side of Merapi Volcano slope. It's about 60 km travel from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, where Adisucipto International airport lays on.
The coordinate of the pass is about 7.29 S and 110.24 E. We can ride there for about 1 hour, and we can fell the fresh air there, a beautiful landscape, the smile and warm of local person, and a traditional life style around the places.
You can get there by public transportation, or by rent a car or motorcycle, but if you wish to contact me, i will arrange the transportation. I suggest you rent a car or motorcycle, because we can get around Ketep Pass as we like, and stop every time and places as we like either, so we can enjoy the trip. Besides, if we use public transportation, we must changes route to get to Ketep pass, and many times are wasted.
Ketep is one hill's peak of some hill between Merapi mountain and Merbabu Mountain. We can view the landscape around by 360 degrees from it's peak. We can overview of 5 mount peak around it's pass, it is mount Merapi, Mount Merbabu, mount Slamet, mount Sumbing, and mount Sindoro. We better bring our telescope or binocular our self, but if we forget it, we can hire from local person with just Rp. 2000.-, it's about quarter of $ 1,-.
We can get study of volcanoes right there, because there's a volcano museum. It's tell about volcano around the world and specially Merapi volcano it self, the most decade volcano. Besides the museum, there is a theatre either. The film shows the activity of Merapi volcano, the eruption process, the community culture around it, and the post disaster handling of Merapi eruption.
If we like like culinary, we can take lunch there, because there's restaurant side there with traditional Indonesian and Chinese food. We can taste "Jagung bakar", a sweet corn barbecue. We will not enough just eat one "jagung bakar", because the taste, but if we have consume 2 or more, we will feel satisfied. The corn from this area have sweet taste more than from the other places, even the barbecue didn't applied with spice, it's still sweet. If we're not vegetarian, we can taste the rabbit barbecue either (in many mount resort in java, this food is usually served, as kaliurang, and tawangmangu). People say that this food can make your body warm, but in my mind just: "It's delicious..!".
The most disturbing situation of this place is the fog. Most every afternoon, this place will be covered by the fog. we can overview the landscape around because it's fog. The surveillance can get just 5-10 meters. The other thing was the road climb to get there. We must get the powerfully vehicle to get to the pass.
If you still have enough time and power, next destination still waiting. From Ketep Pass we can ride to more places around this pass like Borobudur, one of the world heritage, Kopeng, the mount resort either, Selo the starting place to hike to Merbabu or Merapi's peak, because it's located exactly between the two Mount's peak. But the closer place is Kedung kayang. This place is mount resort either. There a waterfall right there, and you can get interesting tracking to get the bottom of it's fountain. The waterfall named with it's place, Kedung kayang.
If we like go on camping, there is camping ground (2 location) beside the river of the waterfall. One can accommodate hundreds people, and the other near the waterfall just 15-35 people. We can enjoy the fresh water flow on the river, the slope of the river so beautiful.
For people doesn't fit with camping, we can hire a home stay that some of them located near the places. How much we must pay? We might be shocked, because we just pay less than $ 1,- one person, one night.
