There is a packet of Beaches tour at Gunung Kidul Regency. You may enter to all beaches on this packet by one ticket. The beaches from the west are Baron, Kukup, Drini, Sepanjang, Krakal and Sundak. The beaches take distance at least 7 km from Sundak to Baron. You can reach these beaches by personal vehicle or by public transportation (just stop at Baron beach).
There are two route choices to get there. First, the west route from Wonosari, and second route is east route from Tepus. From Jogja, you should choose the first route. Jogja-wonosari will give you the enjoy of riding, especially for two wheeler. There’s many ‘S’ turn, there’s many chicanes and hairpin road here. The road has many descending and ascending. You ought to careful when pass through the turn, because sometimes there’s sand, soil or oil spoil on the turn, but here, you can feel the wonderful feeling to ride on.
If you get there from Klaten, Wonogiri or Solo, I suggest you choose the east route through Tepus. From here, you would enter the Beaches from the most east beach, Krakal. There’s just little amount of tourist choose this route, most of them get there by Wonosari city.
The most famous of this packet was Baron, it’s a small bay with its orifice of underwater river. Baron was one of fish harbor on this area, so you can buy fresh fish here from the fisherman. I think why Baron was the most famous beach from these beaches, because Baron was the first beach from the ticket gate from Wonosari and the second reason because the government takes more attention to this beach from the other. Surprisingly, Baron is the only beach that doesn’t have white sands on it; the other beach is consisting of white sands and reef.
After 9, usually the tourist start came to this Beach. The time 9 counts because it is two hour after 7, the time that usually tourist departs here from Jogjakarta. If two hour to get there, so what time we should depart from Jogja. Here, you can stay at little inn at Baron, or if you want close to nature, you can stay here, at Sundak, but with minimal facility. There’s no mattress even less spring bed here. There is just bamboo sofa with plaited mat from pandan leaf. You may build tents too here. Even you just get minimal facility to pass the night here, but you will get warm hospitality from the owner of the shelter. The one I used to meet was Mr. Wasimin.
There is coral reef on the side of this beach, better left side or right side. Climb on it, and you can see the waves run on these green reefs and break and leaves the white line on the blue sea. On the end of the green reef, wide white sands with some pine trees and pandanus. The tress here was the most plus point of this beach. At the other beach, there is no tress near the sand area. Here, the trees grow up on the white sands near the water line, so you can take shelter under the trees while fell the fresh air from the sea and saw the surf splash on the coral reefs.
